What I'm Reading - Online

There are so many great writers putting their work out there through online literary journals.  Here is what I am reading now or have read recently online.

A newly translated story from Jose Saramago, "Reflux" (!)

Maile Meloy's "The Proxy Marriage" in the New Yorker

25 for 25

These are 25 things I think I should do in my 25th year (which starts today, and in no particular order):

1.  Publish a story I am proud of.

2.  Cook 25 new things.

3.  Say yes to something I’d normally say no to.

4.  Master the basics of Photoshop.

5.  See at least one new city.

6.  Make margaretlafleur.com interesting.

7.  Read (at least) 25 books.

8.  Eat something I've never eaten before.

9.  Get someone the perfect gift.

10.  Make an effort to jump at unexpected opportunities.

11.  Stop saying the word "like" so much

12.  Graduate from Graduate school!

13.  Write something everyday (Be it notes on a story, a blog post or real writing... Twitter, Facebook and e-mails don't count).

14. Give $25 to a charity I have never donated to, before.

15. Go to a Minnesota Twins game at the new outdoor Target Field.

16. Take advantage of the unique happenings San Francisco has to offer.

17.  Memorize a poem.

18.  Get a loved or favorite photo professionally framed.

19.  Buy a fabulous pair of boots.

20. Take a tour of something (a museum, a brewery, etc...)

21. Throw out 25 things I don't need, but have let pile up, or hung on to out of habit.

22.  Bake a delicious loaf of bread (I've tried before, but not been that successful).

23.  Learn about the freelance writing market.

24.  "Discover" and subscribe to a literary journal I haven't read a lot of before.

25.  Turn 26 when it's all over!

My thoughts on your 25 for 25 (since I’m 25, too!):

1. Me too.
2. It’s a lot harder than you’d think. So far, I’ve got 6 down.
4. I’ve been trying for years and gave up and went back to Lightroom.
7. Ha! I’ve got you beat! I’m up to something like 56 this year… but having an hour lunch helps. I also feel like if I can’t be writing, I might as well be reading.
8. I did that! Oysters… fresh from Nova Scotia.
11. I could say the same for me about “dude” or “I know, right?”
13. Right there with ya.
14. I know this awesome charity you could donate to… You know, the one I work for ;)
15. I’m going to try to afford season cheap seats…
17. May I suggest “Jabberwocky” hehe.
21. Moving home helped with this, but I think this should be something everyone does every year. We have too much JUNK.
22. I have some good recipes and good experience if you want help! I’ve made a lot of bread.
23. When you learn, let me know. I’ve tossed that idea around a lot in my head for years.

25 will be a good year. I’m sure of it.
